“ Kiss me.. Out of the bearded barley..”
Yes. It's all about romantic-comedy movies today. It is something great about rom-com movies that makes us feel hopeful and loved. While love and relationships are at the heart of these films, you don’t have to be in love to enjoy them. They’re also great for unwinding after a long day. The amazing cinematography, dreamy locations, and yes, the crush-worthy characters (Ehem, Henry Golding in Crazy Rich Asians or Julia Roberts in literally everything) — it’s easy to fall for them
So, whether you're a rom-com enthusiast or a certified rewatcher like me, here are a few must-watch (or must-rewatch) rom-coms that deserve a spot on your screen.
While you were sleeping(1995)
This is an amazing feel-good movie, starring the rom-com queen Sandra Bullock. There is not much convincing I can do after this. The movie will be great with Sandra Bullock’s charm and witty dialogue. Though it follows the familiar love triangle plot, it’s still a treat to see how everything unfolds. It can also be considered a Christmas movie. If you want to feel all snowy and cosy, then this movie is for you.
You’ve got mail (1999)
Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. Need I say more?
This duo, who also starred in Sleepless in Seattle, are back with another iconic love story — this time set in the early days of internet romance. While the idea of falling in love over email may sound old-school now, the film is still relatable, endearing, and packed with nostalgia. Add charming New York backdrops and soft autumn hues, and it’s easy to see why this is a rom-com classic. I have alwas loved rom-coms with 90's charm. Meet Joe Black (1998)
If you’re looking for a romantic film with a twist, Meet Joe Black is a hidden gem. This one leans more into the romantic fantasy genre and takes on a slower, more contemplative pace — but it’s worth every second. And yes… BRAD PITT. That alone is reason enough to watch. It’s not your typical light-hearted rom-com, but if you're into thought-provoking love stories with a touch of the supernatural, this one’s for you.
The Holiday(2006)
This movie feels like snow, hot chocolate, and pure hope. Starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, this movie is about how they navigate their love lives and survive their respective heartbreaks. It's a perfect ‘escape’ movie that you can enjoy and forget about the outside world.
The Proposal (2009)
Again, the queen herself, Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds acted in this movie. This is a proper rom-com that blends both comedy and romance. Although it is typical to show women as the controlling boss, the witty dialogues and the amazing chemistry between both of them make this movie amusing.
Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)
This is an unmissable one on the list. It is a star-packed movie, with Steve Carrel, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Julianne Moore. With entertaining storylines and a fun twist, this movie takes the cake for the perfect rom-com. Also, the famous Ryan Gosling GIF is from this movie.
So what are you waiting for? Get your favourite snacks and dive into one of these movies and feel the love.
