Eat, Pray, Love: The Movie I Always Come Back To

I randomly watched the movie Eat, Pray, Love, as I am a huge fan of Julia Roberts. I went down her filmography rabbit hole and found this movie randomly. I watched this movie solely for her, but by the end of the movie, I learnt alot more than I anticipated. This is one such movie that could change a person’s perspective on life. Whenever I overthink too much or things feel heavy, I will come back to this movie now and then. I want to share what I take away from this movie, or just a simple reminder for you and me as well.

We can never stay in the past and expect a different result

Life has its way sometimes. Something you never expect happens in your life, and it strikes you like lightning. It might anger you, or it might be painful. It is normal to feel the emotions that arises even if they are negative. However, you cannot sit in those emotions for too long! No matter how much you try or relive the past, you can never actually change anything. In this movie, She goes through her hard divorce and deals with the rollercoaster of emotions. As she moves through her solo travel, she finally learns to let go! Something we all have to do at times. The minute she lets go of what she can't control, she actually finds herself. It is hopeful to watch!

Sometimes all you need is a change of environment

She goes for a solo trip to get over the divorce, but mainly to find herself. She travels from Italy to India and Bali, Indonesia. In every place, she finds something about herself. She meets other people, and somehow she understands herself more. This is an amazing reminder that you can't find yourself in the place you have lost. It does not have to be a world travel, but simply changing your current environment temporarily will give you a different perspective on the same issue. All we need is a little break sometimes!

It is a comfort film

Just the cinematography and scenery in these movies are breathtaking. This movie is a fresh breath of air in a nutshell. It's just the idea of witnessing a woman going on a solo travel is comforting to watch. If you are familiar with the one popular scene where she eats pizza at the very place known for authentic pizzas in Naples, Italy. In that scene, she delivers her lines about enjoying food without guilt once in a while. And she does it perfectly. It is such a refreshing and healing perspective, especially in a world that constantly tells us otherwise.

Where your focus goes, energy flows

We cannot control what happens in our lives. But we can definitely change the way we approach these things. “You have to learn to select your thoughts the way you select your clothes every day”. I have to say my mind was blown after watching this scene. We grew up thinking every little thought in our heads needs a reaction. The chain reactions to all those negative thoughts lead to something we casually call overthinking. It is simply the state of not being in the present.

I learned and am still learning to be present every day, and if you want to be present and watch a life-changing movie, I would strongly suggest watching Eat, Pray, Love. This movie is an experience, and I really wish you would love the movie as much as I do.

Let me brainwash you into watching sitcoms

“I declare bankcruptcyyyy”  If you read that in Michael Scott's voice, then you are one of us, a sitcom lover. I started watching Sitcoms when I was in University. A Friends scene popped up on my YouTube recommendations. Ironically, I watched the finale first. But it was so funny and oddly comforting that I went back and binged all the seasons. Since then, I’ve fallen deep into the sitcom rabbit holes.  There is something about watching sitcoms which creates a safe and calm feeling. It will give you an instant feeling like you are included in something warm and pleasant. I believe this is the reason for people to rewatch the same sitcoms many times. Let me give you a few more reasons why you should start watching sitcoms. They are relatable I believe everyone has the urge to feel included, and sitcoms are best at doing it. Remember when Monica asked, “Do you have a plan?” and Phoebe responded with, “I don’t even have a pla ...”? It was hilarious and validating. It remin...

Tengah healing ke tu? A needed escape to Gunung Jerai

Sometimes all we need is a different perspective.  We often get caught up in routines and forget why we push ourselves so hard. At the core, it’s to live the life we dream of. And that takes effort, discipline, and sometimes, a bit of healing. I recently took a long-planned, but impromptu trip to Jerai Hill (Gunung Jerai), which allowed me to relax and stay mindful in the present moment.  To be very honest, I just wanted to escape from the scorching hot weather recently. Malaysia is filled with famous hill stations, and Gunung Jerai is an underrated one. Let me just walk you through everything I loved about Gunung Jerai.  Buckle up! (No, really) Like any hill destination, you need to drive through the beautiful greenery, which makes you think about what else is beautiful you haven't witnessed yet in life. The roads are well-maintained, and there are clear horn signs along the way. It’s a drive that asks you to be both careful and present, watching the road while soaking i...
