5 Random Things I Tried Last Year That I Would 100% Recommend to You

I read somewhere that when you treat your leisure time as your main task and your job as a side quest, life would be much easier. I have to agree with it. We go to work, work on ourselves, and put effort into our relationship. All these things boil down to doing one very thing. That is enjoying your life. To have the freedom to do whatever we want. One significant thing that I learnt last year is that life is never meant for us to sit in any negative emotions for a long time.

In this mindset, I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried out a few random activities.

Played a Pickleball game

And I totally loved it! It was the most hyped sports/game last year. There were courts built for this game everywhere. I stumbled upon this game, and I thought Why not? I played squash when I was very little. The racket still sadly looks at me to this day. After a long time, pickleball caught my eye. As someone who gets lost when people explain any rules of the game, it was pretty easy to understand.  If you are looking to get involved in any type of sports, you have to try pickleball. Jump on the bandwagon, you won't regret it!

Tufting

When I first heard “We are going tufting today”. I said, “You mean trifting”. Nope, it is tufting, and I heard it for the first time. It was a lot of fun trying tufting for the first time. It is kind of like knitting, but you have a device to shoot the threads in. The instructors taught us how to use the machine, and boom, it was hours of tufting. It was a quiet day to spend the time wisely. It is recommended to bring someone with you to take turns. Because ya girl got tired after some point. So while others are doing, you can get reenergized and come back again. We thrifted a cute mat. You can choose any picture and draw on the given fabric. You can request the instructor to draw them for you(depending on the place).

Sand art

I know this is a bit old school, and I am visiting it after a long time. But isn't that the best? I remember buying the small sand art after school and doing that instead of my homework. I happened to come across it suddenly, and the child in me wanted it. An example of the picture and the coloured sands will be given to you. All you have to do is peel off the stickers and pour the colours in the correct place. Such a calming and no-brainer activity.

Built a DIY miniature

Okay, I looove miniatures. It is just so fun to see everything in a mini version. If you are also into miniatures and building stuff, you would really enjoy this. I built a DIY miniature bakery. It was so satisfying to see the results after putting together each piece. And the mini cupcakes and trays? Adorable! This is very similar to Legos, just much cuter!

Shooting paintballs

This was such a stress reliever! Just aim for the target and shoot them. Simple as that! It wasn't easy for me to reach the target. But if you are already into archery and any aiming games, this would be easy for you. It was fun to just randomly shoot paintballs against the target board.

It is these little things that keep us young and alive! So go ahead, romanticise your life a little. Try something new. Laugh more. Play more. And never forget that you are allowed to enjoy your life.

Let me brainwash you into watching sitcoms

“I declare bankcruptcyyyy”  If you read that in Michael Scott's voice, then you are one of us, a sitcom lover. I started watching Sitcoms when I was in University. A Friends scene popped up on my YouTube recommendations. Ironically, I watched the finale first. But it was so funny and oddly comforting that I went back and binged all the seasons. Since then, I’ve fallen deep into the sitcom rabbit holes.  There is something about watching sitcoms which creates a safe and calm feeling. It will give you an instant feeling like you are included in something warm and pleasant. I believe this is the reason for people to rewatch the same sitcoms many times. Let me give you a few more reasons why you should start watching sitcoms. They are relatable I believe everyone has the urge to feel included, and sitcoms are best at doing it. Remember when Monica asked, “Do you have a plan?” and Phoebe responded with, “I don’t even have a pla ...”? It was hilarious and validating. It remin...

Tengah healing ke tu? A needed escape to Gunung Jerai

Sometimes all we need is a different perspective.  We often get caught up in routines and forget why we push ourselves so hard. At the core, it’s to live the life we dream of. And that takes effort, discipline, and sometimes, a bit of healing. I recently took a long-planned, but impromptu trip to Jerai Hill (Gunung Jerai), which allowed me to relax and stay mindful in the present moment.  To be very honest, I just wanted to escape from the scorching hot weather recently. Malaysia is filled with famous hill stations, and Gunung Jerai is an underrated one. Let me just walk you through everything I loved about Gunung Jerai.  Buckle up! (No, really) Like any hill destination, you need to drive through the beautiful greenery, which makes you think about what else is beautiful you haven't witnessed yet in life. The roads are well-maintained, and there are clear horn signs along the way. It’s a drive that asks you to be both careful and present, watching the road while soaking i...
